Under the scratches and the old finish, your wood floor is probably magnificent. Sanding, board repairs, varnish or oil: I give it back its original charm.
An old wood floor is a floor nobody makes any more: board widths, species and a patina you cannot find today. Before you think about replacing it, think about restoring it: it is often more beautiful, and cheaper. I travel to Bagnères-de-Bigorre, Gerde, Campan and the neighbouring valleys.
For an existing floor, everything starts with the diagnosis: the thickness left above the nails decides how many more sandings are possible. Then comes the finish. is the most hard-wearing day to day; oil keeps the feel of bare wood and can be repaired locally, but asks for a little upkeep.
For a new floor, the main choice is between solid and boards: the same beauty on the surface, but different behaviour depending on the room, the subfloor and the heating. I guide you simply, samples in hand.
And if the floor moves or sounds hollow, the problem sometimes comes from the underneath. I can deal with that too: I have restored entire floors while keeping the original oak beams.
The gold-underlined words are explained on hover. All definitions are in the joinery glossary.
You call me and describe your floor and its condition. We set up a visit at your home.
The visit is free: I examine the floor and what is underneath, and tell you what is possible.
A firm price per square metre (a devis in French), repairs included, with no surprises. You decide in your own time.
Repairs, sanding, finishing. I protect the neighbouring rooms and clean up before I leave.
| Wood floor restoration (sanding, repairs, finish) | €30 to €80 per m² |
| New wood floor, supply and fitting included | €50 to €120 per m² |
The price depends on the condition of the floor, the number of repairs, the finish you choose and, for new floors, the species and the type of installation. The detailed quote (devis) is free, and the price I give is firm.
Far less than it used to. My machines are connected to a vacuum extractor that captures most of the dust at the source. There is a fine film left to wipe off at the end of the job, but nothing like the clouds of the old days. I also protect the neighbouring rooms before I start.
Varnish protects with a hard film on the surface: very hard-wearing, easy to look after, ideal for heavy traffic. Oil feeds the wood and keeps a natural matt feel, but needs more regular care. Both are beautiful: I show you samples and we choose based on how you live.
As a rule, you can walk on it in socks 24 hours after the last coat, and move the furniture back after 48 to 72 hours. For rugs, better to wait one to two weeks, until the finish has hardened right through. I leave you simple instructions before I go.
In the vast majority of cases, yes. Split or stained boards replaced, holes filled, creaks dealt with: a hundred-year-old floor, properly restored, is good for decades more. And if the subfloor underneath is tired, I can rebuild that too: I have restored entire floors on their original beams.
Yes: solid or engineered, nailed, glued or floating, in the species and board width you want. I advise you based on the room, the subfloor and your budget, including over underfloor heating.
Call me and let's talk it over. The visit and the quote are free, and the decision is yours. I speak English, so feel free to call or write in English.
