Bespoke is not always the right answer
In this restored part of the farmhouse, the two floors had to be linked without paying the price of a staircase built fully bespoke. The client bought an off-the-shelf beech spiral staircase; it still had to fit into a room it was never meant for: cutting down the lower sections, building a small platform to serve as the first step, and adjusting the markings against a wall that was seriously out of level.
A railing built on site, with the client's own wood
Upstairs, the is ringed by a railing with simple balusters, built right there on site with Douglas fir the client already had: reclaimed wood, in the spirit of the whole renovation. Two days of work in all, for an off-the-shelf staircase no homeowner could have fitted in such an unusual situation. That is also what the trade is about: knowing when bespoke is the answer, and when a clever solution is enough.

Kit staircase or bespoke, how do you choose? Which wood for a staircase that lasts? What do you do when no standard model fits the room?
I have practical answers to all of that, and two articles to dig deeper: the price of a bespoke staircase and which wood for a staircase. And for your own situation, call me: the quote is free.
A staircase to fit, adapt or replace?
Bespoke when it is called for, an adapted kit when that is smarter: I advise the solution that matches your room and your budget. A precise, free quote. I speak English, so feel free to call or write in English.
