Straight, turning or alternating-tread: a staircase designed for your space, built in my workshop in Gerde and fitted in your home. Even where no standard staircase will fit.
A staircase gets climbed and descended dozens of times a day, for decades. It has to be comfortable, silent, solid, and beautiful. It is real joiner's work, and one of the jobs I like best.
It all starts with the , the opening the staircase has to pass through. That is what decides the shape: straight if there is room, turning to save space, or alternating-tread when every centimetre counts.
Then comes the structure. The treads rest on , and every joint is worked out so that nothing creaks or moves over time. For small spaces, the lets you climb steeply without sacrificing comfort.
On style, everything is open: classic oak, a contrast of two species, floating treads, a wooden or metal balustrade. The staircase can become the finest piece of furniture in the house.
The gold-underlined words are explained on hover. All definitions are in the joinery glossary.
You call me and tell me about your project. We set a date to meet at your home.
A precise survey of the space, then plans and 3D views. Together we choose the shape, the wood and the balustrade.
A firm price, all included: staircase, balustrade, finish and fitting. You decide in your own time.
Built in the workshop, fitted in 1 to 3 days. You keep your current staircase until the day itself.
| Bespoke wooden staircase, fitting included | €4,000 to €12,000 |
The price depends on the shape (straight, turning, alternating-tread), the wood species, the balustrade and the finish. Renovating an existing staircase often costs far less: the quote (devis) is free in both cases, and the price is firm.
Yes, almost always. An alternating-tread staircase, for example, climbs more steeply while staying comfortable, thanks to offset treads. I built one in an octagonal room where no standard staircase would fit. It is exactly the kind of problem I enjoy solving.
Oak remains the safe bet: hard, stable, and it ages beautifully. Beech and ash are excellent alternatives, and you can play with contrasts by pairing two species or combining wood with metal. I show you samples to help you choose.
Yes. If the structure is sound, we can replace treads, clad the existing staircase, redo the finish or change the balustrade. It is often far cheaper than a new staircase. After the visit, I tell you frankly what is worth doing.
Yes, the quote covers the whole job: staircase, balustrade and handrail, compliant with safety standards. Wood, cables, metal: we choose the style together, in keeping with your interior.
Allow 6 to 10 weeks between approving the quote and fitting: a staircase is drawn precisely, built in the workshop, then fitted in 1 to 3 days. While it is being built, you keep the use of your current staircase.
Call me and let's talk it over. The visit and the quote are free, and you decide in your own time. I speak English, so feel free to call or write in English.
