It is the first thing people see of your house, and the last thing you close at night. A front door has to insulate, protect and welcome. I help you choose the right one, and I fit it to trade standards.
An old front door means a permanent draught, a tired lock and a house that ages from the outside. Replacing it changes everything, in a single day of fitting. I work in Bagnères-de-Bigorre and the surrounding villages and valleys, across the whole of the Hautes-Pyrénées.
Insulation first: a modern door, well fitted, cuts out cold and noise. The material and the seal do the work, provided the fitting is plumb and the sealing continuous. That is where the craftsman's care shows, or does not.
Security next: a bolts the door along its whole height, and glazing protects the glazed sections. But the most important thing is still a solid fitting: the best lock is useless on a badly fixed frame.
Style last: the door sets the tone of the house. Warm timber, contemporary aluminium, bold or sober colours, with or without a glazed side panel. I show you what exists, and together we choose what suits your façade.
The gold-underlined words are explained on hover. All definitions are in the joinery glossary.
You call me, you explain. I ask a few questions and we set up a visit at your home.
The visit is free: I take the measurements, check the frame and the wall, and give you advice on the spot.
A firm price, item by item, no surprises. You take as long as you need to decide.
Removal of the old door, fitting, adjustments, cleaning. That evening, you lock up on a brand-new door.
| Front door, supply and fitting included | €1,500 to €4,500 |
The price depends on the material (timber, aluminium or a mix), the glazing, the level of security and the dimensions. A bespoke door for a non-standard entrance is priced case by case. The detailed quote (devis) is free, and the price quoted is firm.
One day in most cases, removal of the old door included. That same evening, you lock up on your new door. If the frame needs masonry repairs, I warn you beforehand and we plan accordingly.
Not always. If the existing frame is sound and plumb, the new door can be fitted over it, as with a renovation window. If it is damaged, or if you want better insulation, it is better to replace everything. I tell you where you stand after the visit, with both prices if needed.
Yes, it is even one of my specialities. Narrow entrance, unusual height, arched shape, old house: the door is made to the exact dimensions of your entrance. That is the advantage of going through a joiner rather than a catalogue. In Fréchendets, I fitted a pine front door under a fanlight with sunburst glazing bars, kept exactly as it was.
The essentials come down to three things: a multipoint lock (3 or 5 locking points), laminated glazing if the door is glazed, and above all a solid fitting, because the best lock is useless on a badly fixed frame. I advise you according to your situation, without selling fear.
Current grants mainly target windows and whole-house insulation; the front door on its own is rarely eligible. On the other hand, as part of a wider energy renovation, the reduced VAT rate can apply. We go through it honestly at quote time.
Call me and let's talk it over. The visit and the quote are free, and you decide in your own time. I speak English, so feel free to call or write in English.
