Timber, uPVC, aluminium or both: I help you choose what suits your house and your budget, then I fit with care. No jargon, no pressure.
Replacing your windows is the most cost-effective job in a house: less cold in winter, less noise, less heating. But between the materials, the glazing options and the impenetrable quotes, it is easy to get lost.
There is no bad material, there are different houses and different budgets. Here is what I tell my clients:
| uPVC | Timber | Aluminium | Timber-alu | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Who is it for? | The best value for money, in most cases | Houses with character, the charm of older buildings | Large openings, contemporary style | The top of the range: timber inside, aluminium outside |
| Upkeep | None | A coat of stain every 5 to 10 years | None | Almost none |
| Insulation | Very good | Very good, and natural | Good (with a ) | Excellent |
| Indicative budget | €500 to €900 per window | €800 to €1,400 per window | €900 to €1,500 per window | €1,200 to €2,000 per window |
On the glazing side too, there are useful options: against noise, for security, or blinds built in between the panes. We talk it through according to your needs, room by room. And to enjoy your windows open in summer, I also fit made-to-measure fly screens.
The gold-underlined words are explained on hover. All definitions are in the joinery glossary. To dig deeper into the choice of material: uPVC, aluminium or timber windows, how to choose.
You call me, you explain. I ask a few questions and we set up a visit at your home.
The visit is free: I take the measurements, check the state of the walls and give you advice on the spot.
A firm price, item by item, no surprises. You take as long as you need to decide.
I fit, I adjust, I clean up. We check everything together before I leave.
If you are replacing like for like (same size, same look), often not. If you change the colour, the size or the material visible from the street, a déclaration préalable (prior declaration) at the mairie may be needed, especially in a protected zone. I tell you where you stand during the visit, and I can help you fill in the form.
Allow around half a day per window in renovation. A whole house of 8 to 10 windows is generally done in a week. You can stay at home while the work is going on: I work room by room.
Yes, subject to your income and the performance of the windows (the MaPrimeRénov' grant, VAT reduced to 5.5% for energy renovation work, local schemes). The schemes change often: we go through it together at quote time, with the real figures of the moment.
With renovation fitting (pose en rénovation), the old timber frame is kept if it is sound and the new window goes on top of it: quicker, cheaper, but you lose a little glazing. With full removal (dépose totale), everything comes out down to the wall: more light, but more finishing work. I advise case by case, window by window.
I work with serious manufacturers I know, French and European, chosen for their quality and their after-sales service. I always state the origin on the quote.
Call me and let's talk it over. The visit and the quote are free, and you decide in your own time. I speak English, so feel free to call or write in English.
